Notes for ALMA MARY OSBORN: On Alma's head stone there is listed her year of birth and for the death there is only 19__. So I'm wondering if she really is buried there. Perhaps when Mabel died in 1903 the parents bought stones for the whole family and had birth dates engraved. Did Alma marry and is buried somewhere with her husband under her married name and is that why this stone at Cole Cemetery doesn't have a year of death on it or did she never marry, and had no one left to see to it that her stone was finished with the year of death on it ?? ?? Also, if Alma had preceeded her mother in death (pre 1944) it seems as her mother would have had Alma's stone finished. In her notes, Aunt Marnie has Alma's death as 1970 but I don't know what her source is. |

Notes for BERNICE OSBORN: Stories emailed to me from Tom Warnimont Charlie and Bernice Wulff at one time lived on his parents farm. After his parents died it was time to settle the estate. charlie offered to buy the farm, but the other brothers and sisters wanted more money than he could give so they had to sell the farm and split the money. Bernice and Charlie then bought 5 acres on county Rd. V in Liberty Center, Ohio. While Charlie was alive they had some sheep of their own and Charlie became a hired hand to other farmers. One morning, Bernice woke up and realized Charlie was not in bed. she went out to the living room and there Charlie was in his favorite chair dead. Apparently a heart attack. She was so dependent upon him, but being a strong farm woman she got on with her life .She never drove a car so this was a problem, but between my Mom, myself and neighbors she got along. Bernice got very little SS and I never could figure how she made ends meet. In their lifetime they only had two cars. A 32 Chev and a 55 Chevy, Ha. Bernice was a big woman and very strong and determined lady.(definitely German) When she was in the nursing home I went to her home and was getting some of her clothes. Her winter coat was so shabby. My mom had some nice winter coats so I gave one to her. One day, I went to the nursing home to pick her up to go to the doctor and it was cold so I brought my moms coat for her to wear. She looked at me and said where is my coat. I told her this is a nicer coat and I threw hers away. Man, was that a mistake. She really tore into me. After Bernice's husband Charlie died my Mom became her caretaker. I wonder why they never had any children? Then my Mom and step-dad moved to Florida after he retired from GM. I looked after Bernice a lot during this time. Then my step-dad died and my Mother moved back to Defiance and took care of bernice again. She never liked florida. My mother got really whacked out with diabetes and could not take care of herself and ended up in a nursing home until she died. I then helped Bernice again. She had diabetes too and I really did not know how bad. One day I got a call from a neighbor and he told me Bernice just got taken to the emergency room in Napoleon by the Rescue Squad. When I got to the emergency room, the doctor had me come in with her. He showed me her toes and most of them were all black and literally rotting off. They ended up amputation a lot of her toes. I felf so sorry for her because she really did not get what all was happening. At this point, I was informed there is no way she can live in her home alone so she ended up at the same nursing home as my Mother. She had given me Power of Attorney. I had an auction of her home etc. and it brought in around 37,000. Within a little over a year her medical bills and nursing home care charges ate all of her money up. Very sad situation. While she was in the nursing home she became a very angry person towards me and the nurses-she just did not understand why all this was happening to her. I was in the hospital at one point for a gall bladder operation. Bernice ended up in the hospital too. While I was recovering a nurse came to my room and said that Bernice was dying and if I wanted to be with her. I went down and sat with her until she died. She had a very small funeral at Walkers in Napoleon. |
