REVOLUTIONARY WAR PENSION APPLICATION

National Archives File #R3451
State of Virginia
Henry County

On this 24th day of November A.D. 1834 personally appeared before me Wm. A. Taylor a Justice of the Peace in & for the County of Henry, Charles Farris a resident of the County of Henry and State of Virginia, aged Seventy five years, who being first duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath, make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the act of Congress passed June 7th 1832.
That he was born in Pittsylvania in the State aforesaid in the year 1759 and was living in that County when called into service that since the revolutionary war he has resided in Pittsylvania and Henry which latter is now his place of residence -that he kept no record of his age - that he was drafted and served a tour of Six weeks under Capt. Jno Buckly - was stationed at Halifax Old Town from whence he marched to Charlotte, where he was discharged by Col Peter Perkins - and that he performed this tour of service to the best of his recollection in the year 1780.
That in the year 1781 a desertion of militia took place at a certain Hugh Dobbins near Boydes ferry - it occurred immediately after the British troops under Command of Cornwallis had evacuated the place, and on the eve of the skirmish at Ramsey's Mills - that upon this desertion, it was announced by Capt. Buckly that in pursuance of general orders received to that effect from Genl Greene, all who would volunteer their Services for one month, (this tour of service having expired) would be thereby discharged of three months service - that after the expiration of this months service he was discharged by Capt Buckly.
This applicant further declares that he served a tour of something more than three months, under Capt. Wynne as will appear from the affidavit of Philip Rose, herewith transmitted and as stated in said affidavit this was about the time Lord Cornwallis surrendered and that during this time of Service, Col Peter Perkins was his Superior Officer - that this applicant was called and by order of Captain Wynne, to constitute one of the guard which conducted a body of prisoners taken in the State of South Carolina from Pittsylvania to Winchester a distance perhaps of 150 miles - that under Capt. Bush he also served a tour of two weeks against the Tories and was stationed for a part of this time at a certain Stephen Lyons - that this service was performed in Patrick & Henry Counties but principally in the latter, and that Col. Henry was fot the time his Supv?? Officer.
This applicant further States that he has no recollection of ever having recd a discharge - that Gen. Dillard of this County believes in his services and that his is acquainted with Col Martin, Col Fountain, Capt Joseph Bouldin & others. That he hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension or annuity except the present and that his name is not on the pension roll of the agency of any State.
Sworn to and Subscribed the day and year aforesaid.

It would seem from this article that Elizabeth has remarried to a man
named Black. This marriage probably took place in Kansas as I could find
no listing of it in the Laurel Co. marriage books. I will attach an FGS
on this family with all the info I have on them. If I can help you
