Edna Mae says that growing up, her mother would let her go help her grandmother, Nancy Elizabeth, known by all as "Grandma Can". Grandma would give Gale (cousin to Edna Mae) more money because she cooked for the men who worked on the farm, sawing wood. Edna Mae would stay one week, then Gale the next week. Grandma Can had a bad leg due to a cat scratch.
Edna Mae tells of Obe being afraid of the chickens. She had gone to Sunday School, and he had not gathered the eggs for her.
Velma (sister-in-law to Edna Mae) tells a story about when Edna Mae was small she followed her brother, Ernest and her Dad, Obe to get the cows, and got lost.
Herbert and Edna Mae met at Glades Springs Missionary Baptist Church. They were later married in Stockton Court House by a Judge.
