Rulof Ruloffzsen KIPP was born in 1544 in France. He died about 1596 in Amsterdam, Holland. Parents: Ruloff KIPP and UNKNOWN.

Ruloff KIPP was born in 1510 in France. He died on 13 Mar 1569 in Battle of Jurnac, Jernac, France.

Our Kipp History
The name was originally de Kype. A Roeloff de Kype who had a manor house
in the Alencon region of France was involved in the massacre of Protestants
at Vassey. As a result, the outcry of the people forced him to run for his life.
The manor house was burned to the ground and he and his 3 sons were
forced to live underground, staying in monasteries under assumed names
until they could reach safety in Holland. When a certain duke came into
power, the father and one of the sons returned to France to fight with him.
The father died in battle and that son went to war in Itaqly were he also
perished. Of the two remaining sons, one became a priest and the other
became a Protestant. This was Roeloff, Jr. It was one of Roeloff's descendants
who came with the Dutch East India Company to New Amsterdam. He was a
tailor. It was said that the Dutch who came over with that group were
different from the norm. They all came with money while others came to
make money. This group soon found that they were able to make 7 times
what they could have made in Holland doing the same things. The Kipp
family coat of arms hung above the door to their home in New Amsterdam
for years. George Washington bivouwacked in their home on Long Island
during the Battle of New York, and Kips Bay in New York was named after
them. That name has since changed.

Hello cuz! I have heard of Issaic Kipp, but I need some time to locate
the info. No, I never received the Kipp Coat of Arms. Have you a copy?
The Kipp family split up around the time of the Revolutionary War, some
stayed in the US, some (my ancestors) were 'Loyalists" and went to Canada,
ultimately setteling in Ontario, where they stayed until the 1850's when 5
brothers immigrated into the US. Tow of these went to Kansas, and Kipp
Kansas is named after the other brother, not my direct ancestor. That side
of the family ultimatly setled near Hutchison, KS. There is some
descendant that npow lives in Colorado and has formed a group that has
family reuinions. I'll have to look that name/address up too. I think his
name was Jacob Kipp, tho not sure.

My brother tells me a Kipp was on the Lewis & Clark expidition, and that
there is a mountain called "Kipp's Peak" somewhere along their path. I
assume you know of "Kip's Bay" in NYC, and the Kip (Kype) Farm where the
Chrysler Building is now standing. The Kip Farm grew mainly hops for local
beer, called Kip's Beer. The current owners have revived the old Kip
homestead (The Roosevelts were neighbors, btw) and is getting the Kip's
Beer trademarked. On the door of the old homestead is a glass pane with
the Kipp Crest on it, that's how my brother found it.

The original Kipp in America, Henrik(sp?) Kipp (or Kip, or Kype) was fairly
wealthy and owned the ship 'Half Moon'. That ship was the ship Henry
Hudson had rented when he discovered Hudson's Bay (you may not recall that
the crew mutined and sent Henry and his son a-sailing on a rowboat in that
Bay).
