They returned to Anderson Co., KS, living on a farm near Garnett. In 1910 they moved to Harris, KS where he had a hardware store.

"Daniel was reared mainly in Redbank Twp., Armstrong Co., PA. Married first Margaret Heller. Daniel and Margaret settled on Pottowatomie creek, four miles north of Westphalia, KS in the western part of Anderson Co., KS. in the spring of 1857.
Margaret was killed in Sept 1864 as a result of an accident when she took a couple of horses same distance from the house for a barrel of water. The neck yoke became detached, the pole dropped to the ground and the horses became frightened. Margaret was thrown forward, kicked by the horses and died as a result of her injuries.
Daniel is mentioned in History of Anderson Co., KS as being among the prominent settlers south and west of Mineral Point. This was the first stage coach stop and postoffice west of the Mississippi River. Daniel is also listed as treasurer of the school board in 1865. After Margaret's death Danile returned to PA and married Rebecca Wise Michael, Margaret's half sister.
Daniel and Rebecca are buried in Cherry Mound cemetery, three miles north of Westphalia, KS. The land for the cemetery was givem by Daniel. Margaret and four others are buried in unmarked graves about a mile north of the present cemeter."

Uncel Dan Lankard is very sick. Dr. Kirkpatrick and Lindsey are attending. Both doctors think he is out of danger.
Thursday, 19 Feb 1891:
Dan Landard, an old respected citizen of this county, passed peacefully away last Sunday night, after an illness of several months. Mr. Lankard is an old and respected citizen of this county and was a man that always tried to do right. He was a member of the Methodist Church for many years and lived faithful even unto death. At his death he was 60 years old and leaves this world with a smooth path behind.
