James Parks aged 97 wrote "I was born in Wilkes Co., NC near the Yadkin River Sept 26, 1781. My Grandfather, John Parks moved to this place before the Rev War but how long before I do not know. My Grandfather was Irish descent and my Grandmother of Dutch. They raised to be men and women 14 children, 7 boys and 7girls. My father George was raised and married in the same settlement. My mother's maiden name was Milly Davis. They had 6 children, all lived to have families except one. I lived in that neighborhood until age 15, when my father with his family moved to Burke Co., NC"
James and family traveled with the George Parks' wagon train in 1815. He wrote an autobiagrasphy of their adventures. James lived to be 102 and danced the quadrille on his 100th birthday.
James' wife, Nancy Moore, and George II's wife, Mary Polly Moore are sisters.

John Parks was said to be Irish. There is considerable controversy over the spouse of John. In some records his wife is Sarah Wingfield and in other Mary Sharp. I have listed them both, as I feel he could have been married to both since there are 17 children. Also there is a child named Wingfield, as twin to Mildred. No further record has been found of these two, so may have died young.
From diary of E M Parks:
John moved to Wilkes Co., NC before the Rev War as stated by grandson, James Parks. James also stated John was of Irish descent and Sarah was Dutch. He said John and Sarah raised 7 sons and 7 daughters to be grown.
In 1775 Taxpayers: John paid 4 poll taxes, himself and 3 negroes.
John's will, probated in Feb 1783, left most to Samuel Lined, who continued to live in Wilkes Co. Sally Sales did receive 5 shillings and John is repaid 8 pounds of tobacco.
