Roy was like his ancestors, short with black hair and eyes. Maggie had light brown hair and brown eyes.
Roy was a hard worker, and his motto was "early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise". He prided himself in being the first one up each morning in the neighborhood. Later in life, he would get up early and turn on the yard light so everyone would think he was up and out, then he would go back to bed. He would tell this story with a twinkle in his eyes.
Maggie was a kind, gentle lady, loved by all who knew her. She had a lovely singing voice and used it for the Lord by singing solos in church.
Roy and Maggie raised their children up in the Lord. I remember spending summer vacation with them many times and each morning was begun with Bible reading and prayer on the knees.
I remember one story told many times about their coming home from church one night late. A little later one of the neighbors came, bringing Harriet home. She had gone to sleep on the front pew, and they had gone on home without her.
Maggie had diabetes and died from complications of the flu. Roy died about 3 weeks after a stroke. Parents: Benjamin Frankin PARKS and Harriet Levina WEIR.

bullet Leroy Harvey PARKS(36) was born on 19 Apr 1822 in Bloomington, Monroe Co., IN. He died 14/15 Jan 1887 in Leroy, McLean Co., IL. Leroy and his brother, Benjamin, engaged in the manufacture of tobacco in Monroe Co., IN. They both moved to McLean Co., IL in 1853, the same year their father, George II moved to Cumberland Co., IL. The brothers started a Dry-goods business. At the start of the Civil War,
Leroy sold his interest to Benjamin, then enlisted in the Army of the North.
At the time of his enlistment his height was given as: 5 ft 10 in. Hair: black, eyes: black, complexion: dark, Occupation: Merchant. He was a Sgt in Co K, 39th Infantry. He joined for service and enrolled on 4 Sept 1861, at LeRoy, IL for term of 3 years. His son Benjamin also served in this company. Leroy was injured at Petersburg, VA, by falling and injuring his left knee, around May 1864. He was sent to Grant's Island, NY to a hospital, in one record it is called, "David's Island", in a letter Leroy wrote from here he called it "Willett's Point, NY'.. He wrote a letter, 20 July 1864, to President Lincoln, complaining that they wouldn't discharge him, nor send him back to his company and that "they were near to starving him". The letter was referred on to the Surgeon General, who stated he felt Leroy's condition was not life threatening, nor did it lend to starvation. Leroy was mustered out 10 Sept 1864 by reason of expiration of term of service, near Petersburg, VA.
