bullet Rev Robert Milton PARKS(43) was born on 16 Dec 1815 in Lawrence Co., IN. He died on 17 Feb 1890 in Lawrence Co., IN.
Robert Parks was educated in Lawrence Co. schools and Lawrence Co. Seminary. At twenty-one years of age he began teaching school, which he continued for twenty years, and in March, 1837, united with the Baptist Church four miles east of Bedford. Since that time the greater part of his life was passed in preaching and teaching, largely in his native county. 1 March 1842 his marriage with Jane T Short was solemnized and this lady has indeed been his helpmate, taking an active interest with her husband in all matters pertaining to religion or education. For nearly twenty years Robert Parks served as Clerk of the Bedford Association of Baptists, at the same time acting as Moderator. He undoubtedly has married more couples and attended more funerals than any man now in the county. In politics he was a Democrat but was opposed to slavery and was an active worker in the temperance cause. For a time he was Postmaster under President Pierce's administration, and by an upright life gained many warm friends and few enemies. Mrs. Parks was a church member fifty-two years, joining when only twelve years old.

LeRoy Journal: July 1923 obituary of Ross Eldon: "He passed away at home of A S Beeney, a half brother. He was the farmer's friend. At one time he possessed 4000 acres of land. He named the town of Lily. He was always a lover of the great outdoors and was an ardent disciple of Isaac Walton, enjoying nothing more than being on a fishing or hunting trip with his friends. He often wrote a letter for publication to the Journal. There was a very large funeral, conducted by the Odd Fellows, and was laid to rest by his wife and two sons."

"Ross was born on Grandma Parks' place. I was born in Mountain View, MO. Ross worked for my folks at Mont Ida. Ross went to school in MO and OK.
My folks moved to KS when I was guite young. I went to school at Mont Ida. I attended high school at Iola.
I was too young when Ross worked for Dad in hay field. I was really upset when he went to AR to sell magazines. When he came back in 2 years, I had grown up he said! We started dating and got married. We always loved each other. He was a nice person."
Uncle Ross farmed until he retired. They lived near my family when we lived at Iantha. Uncle Ross loved to fish and hunt, (like his name sake, Ross Eldon, son of Leroy Harvey). He could tell stories of every fish he had ever caught. I remember many nights of fishing on the Pottawanie River. Uncle Ross and Dad would set limb lines. They had a boat with a lantern, and would "run the lines" ever so often. It was my greatest treat to get to go with them. Uncle Ross would point to a limb and tell what big one he had caught there some such time. We slept on blankets on a big flat rock. The greatest miracle, we never got snake bit!
