bullet Paul/Polk POWELSON was born in 1839 in Peoria Co., IL. Paul/Polk was killed at Young's Point in Civil War. He died on 18 Mar 1863 in Young's Point, LA. The War Between the States was threatening the peace of daily life in 1862. Paul enlisted in Oct and mustered in 8 Dec 1862. He and his friend Jack Havens liked with their blankets and duffel to Jefferson Barracks. Fariba' family and Paul's father, Henry, as well as his brother John and family all lived nearby. Paul would return soon.
Instead, he was dead at Yong's Point, LA. His son had been born a few days before. The cause of death; according to the cerificate, "while at Young's Point, LA, this soldier was taken with disease, chronic diarrhea, which in consequence of exposure, unavoidable, he died".
His burial place has not been found or acknowledged. Forty thousand soldiers died of the same ailment and exposure, bad water and bad food in that war. Many were buried in mass graves. The area of Young's Point was crucial to the seige of Vicksburg. Parents: Henry POWELSON and Susannah HINES.
