Blakey is of Scotch-Irish descent, per Memorial record of Western Kentucky, Lewis Publishing Co. 1904 PP 758-759. Dr. Thomas W. Blakey was one ot the foremost medical practitioners in Hopkinsville, KY. The earliest American ancestor came over contemporarily with the Mayflower Pilgrims.
Dr. Blakey's Great-Grandfather was William Blakey, a native of Virginia and a soldier in the Revolutionary War, having crossed the Delaware on that memorable occasion with Washington. He was one of the pioneers of Logan county, KY, and settled in the woods among the Indians and wild animals. His son, Thomas, who is supposed to have been born in Logan county, built the first brick house in that county.
