bullet Jacob BOSTATER(6) (photo) was born on 4 Oct 1761 in Washington Co., MD. (7) He died on 11 Sep 1843 in Washington Co., MD. Jacob changed the spelling of the name from Bostetter to Bostater. It is thought the reason for this change may have been the fact the German soldiers helped the English fight the Americans during the Revolutionary War. Jacob may have felt he was looked down up on due to his German name.
Jacob is buried in the Bostetter family cemetery on the Bostetter farm located on Hardsgravel Road, near Hagerstown, MD. This writer and her family visited this cemetery one very hot July day, walking through a tall corn field to reach it. Jacob's headstone had been broken off at some time. Someone had leaned it up against a small tree. The tree had grown and a knot formed over the top of the stone, holding it in place.
The farm had been sold out of the Bostetter family two years before we visited the farm. It is down the road from the John Long farm. I believe the Bostaters and the Longs knew each other, and traveled to PA and then Ohio together. Jacob's children migrated to Ankenytown, Ohio in 1829. Parents: Andrew BOSTATER and Elizabeth LONG.
