bullet Cleo Edward WILLS was born on 9 Aug 1916 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Co., OK. He was adopted about 1917. Eddy, as Cleo Edward was known, was adopted by Odis and Maude Wills. He died on 16 Jan 1957 in Levenworth, KS. Eddie spent his boyhood in Kansas and Oklahoma. He graduated from the Guthrie, OK High School in 1934.
He worked in Wichita, KS prior to enlisting in the Army in Nov 1940. He was a Technical Sergeant and flight engineer, and flew as a tail gunner on a medium bomber with 52 missions over Italy, France and Germany during the European campaing. He was honarably discharged in Aug 1945. His decorations and eitations were the Air Medal with three Bronze Oak Leaf clusters, and one silver Oak leaf cluster, the Good Conduct Medal and the American Defense Service Ribbon.
In may, 1946 he re-enlisted for three years but received a medical discharge in Feb 1949, due to injur9ies received in line of duty as a Staff Sergeant. Then he was engaged in farming in Anderson county for seven years prior to his appointment as undersheriff of Anderson county, 12 July 1956. He enjoyed his law enforcement work until he became ill in Nov and entered the Veterans hospital.

Following is a story by Vera Parks Wills:
I was the seventh child of Leroy and Margaret (Smith) Parks. Born in Payne Co., OK on 20 Feb 1919. One year later the family moved to Vernon Co., MO. My first year of school was at Science Hill, a one room school, there in MO. I couldn't talk plain and in counting I would leave out 13. The teacher would say, "What comes after 12?" I would say "fifteen" and the whole school would laugh. Later in the first year, the family moved to Walker, MO. I finished first and second grade there.
I helped with work in the fields on the family farm. I was nicknamed "Sweet Pea". I was little, but mighty! I had to stretch to be 5 feet tall.
I started working out when I was 19 years old, earning $2.50 a week. The pay increased to $1.00, then $3.00 a day, over the years. When I was 24 years old, I joined the WAAC for eight months. When my tour was over I lived in Lorain, Ohio with my sister, Lottie Krause. Lottie's husband, Erwin, was in the Navy serving overseas. We two sisters worked in a steel company. I operate two machines in the coupling shop, that made two inch couplings. The men that also did this, were upset as the ladies could make more than the men, as they were paid extra for more pieces.
When the war was over, I returned to Kansas. My job was as a waitress in a restaurant in Garnett, KS. There I met Cleo Edward "Eddy" Wills and his cousin, Olive Bishop, in Jan 1946. Our first date was in February, and we were engaged in March and married in April. I was 27 at the time. Some of Eddy's friends asked him why he was "robbing the cradle", as they thought I was 18!
Our only child, Glen Edward, was born nine years later, when I was 36. Just before Glen was two, Eddy passed away with Hopkin's Disease. I sold Stanley Home products for 25 years, living in Garnett at 210 Elm Street. I then begin serving in nursing homes as a housekeeper. I progressed to Nurse's Aide, then to Certified Medical Aide.
I love to put jigsaw puzzles together. I have an art in quilt making. My hobby is collecting stamps and dolls. I am a member of the First Baptist Church in Garnett, but was a member of the Nazarene Church for a number of years. Parents: Clent STURDAVENT and Vera MONTGOMERY. Parents: Odis WILLS and Maude.

He was married to Vera Corean PARKS on 20 Apr 1946 in Garnett, Anderson Co., KS. Children were: Glen Edward WILLS.
