Generation No. 2

2. NATHAN2 MINDER (JOHN1)11 was born 1820 in Rockland Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania12,13, and died 24 January 1888 in Frankfort Township, Pepin County, Wisconsin14,15. He married SARAH WORKING16 1841 in Centre County, Pennsylvania17, daughter of GEORGE WORKING and ANNA ANSPACHT. She was born 18 August 1824 in Pennsylvania18, and died 26 December 1905 in Lake City, Wabasha County, Minnesota19.

Notes for N
ATHAN MINDER:
Nathan was found on the Iowa and Pennsylvania 1850 Census. After talking with some family members we have come to the conclusion that since these Census' were taken some months apart that he was probably in Iowa scoping out the land and then had gone back to Pennsylvania to get his family and move them to Iowa to be by his family.

After moving to Wisconsin Nathan became a farmer. On December 15, 1868 a homestead record was found for Nathan Minder in Pepin County, Volume 112. Section 35, Town 24, Range 14, general land office.

On the 1880 Census from Lake City, Minnesota it is noted that Nathan and Sarah ran a boarding house.

Pepin County Courier, Durand, Wisconsin, Friday, January 27, 1888, Section 1, column 2, page 5: "Nathan Minder, who settled in this county some twenty years ago, but who for some years has resided at Lake City, Minnesota, died at the residence of his son John in the town of Frankfort on Tuesday last. Deceased had a stroke of paralysis three weeks ago while visiting with his son and gradually failed until his death. His remains were taken to Lake City for interment."

Lake City Graphic Sentinal, January 31, 1888: "Nathan Minder, an old resident of this city, while engaged at his work in Wisconsin, died suddenly last week of paralysis. His remains were brought here and buried on Friday last. The funeral took place at the house."

Notes for S
ARAH WORKING:
Sarah Working was born in Pennsylvania on 18 August 1824 to George and Anna Marie (Anspacht) Working. She died from gall stones and senility at the age of 81 on 26 December 1905 in Lake City, Wabasha County, Minnesota she is buried in the Lakewood Cemetery, Lake City, Minnesota.

Sarah and Nathan ran a boarding house in Lake City. After Nathan's death Sarah continued to run the boarding house on her own with the help of her children.

Family history has it that Sarah and Rebecca (David's wife) were sisters and married brothers. Their father George Working is buried in the Frankfort Township Cemetery.

I have in my files a copy of Sarah's Final Decree, dated December 18th, 1908. In this final decree she left her personal property to her children and grandchildren.

Extracted from The White River Journal, Kent, Washington, Saturday, October 12, 1895. Volume 6 No. 41. Pages are unnumbered, however this obituary appears on the third page. Extracted from the newspaper mirco-film copy at the Kent, Washington Library on 18 May 1985 by Donna Grothaus, South King County Genealogical Society.

Fletcher-In Kent, Tuesday night, October 8th. Mrs. Elizabeth Fletcher, age 69 years. Mrs. Elizabeth Fletcher was born in Reading, Pennsylvania, on 8th of February, 1826, and lived there until her 21st year, (this is not correct as they lived in Iowa in 1850 when she was 19) her maiden name having been Minder. She was married in 1845 (again not correct) to Mr. Henry Fletcher and in 1847 she emigrated with her family to St. Louis (again not correct). After a short stay the family removed to Wisconsin and lived in various parts of that state and Minnesota for twenty years. She roughing it with her husband and family as pioneers during the settling up of those states. Among the places lived in by the family were Eau Claire and Danville in Wisconsin and Moorehead and Abercrombie in Minnesota.

Mrs. Fletcher kept the first hotel ever kept in the city of Eau Claire, being patronized almost entirely by the lumbermen of Wisconsin, there being very few women in the country at the time and those few scattered widely.

Mrs. Fletcher was the mother of ten children, five boys and five girls, eight of whom arrived at maturity. There are now living of her immediate descendents 6 children, 22 grand children and 2 great-grand children.

She arrived in Kent in December 1889 where she resided until her death last Tuesday night.

Family history has it that Elizabeth died from blood poisoning caused by a razor cut she inflicted while paring her corns.
