Notes for R
EV. GERALD MERWIN PETERSON:
Gerald "Bud" Merwin the second child of Henry Edgar and Geneva Arvella (Minder) Peterson was born in Red Wing, Minnesota on 15 February 1925. His older brother, Lloyd, called him his buddy, not being able to say brother. That was shortened to Bud and thus he got his nickname.

Bud is short in stature and is bald headed. He's been known to say that a person can't have it all! He also has the Peterson sense of humor and loves to tell jokes.

In his youth he had back surgery.

He married Marion Charlotte Moore the daughter of George and Mary (Zignego) Moore on 25 March 1944. They had one child, a son

Bud worked as a construction worker as a bridge painter for many years. Working mostly in the Chicago area but also in Minnesota and Texas.

Bud and family moved to Dubuque, Iowa where Bud opened a shoe repair shop. While living in Dubuque he and Marion were divorced.

He remarried on 21 March 1963 in Houston, Texas, Mavis Ethel (Dougharty) DeSpain the daughter of James Henry and Ola (Young) Dougharty. Mavis had been married before and had two young daughters, Leah Annette and Darla Monette who were adopted by Bud. He and Mavis have a daughter, Barbara Jean.

This new family moved to Red Wing, Minnesota where Bud worked as a painter. They then moved to Maquoketa, Iowa where Bud opened another shoe repair shop and founded a United Pentecostal Church which he pastored until 1971.

They moved to Ellsworth, Wisconsin where Bud purchased a shoe repair shop and he became the pastor of the United Pentecostal Church.

At the young age of 48 Bud suffered a heart attack while in the pulpit preaching to his congregration. He could no longer fix shoes so he turned his business over to his son, Blake. The shop later closed and Bud was able to get the contract for the East End post office, which Mavis ran until they moved from Ellsworth in 1988.

Bud had a five by pass heart surgery in the fall of 1988. He and Mavis had moved to the village of Pepin and lived there for a few years and then they moved to Menomonie, Wisconsin where Bud again pastored. He retired this past year because of health reasons.

Bud loves to fish. For years he had a camper and boat. He would go fishing whenever he got the opportunity.
