Notes for G
ARY ARNOLD PETERSON:
Gary Arnold Peterson, son of Henry and Violet (Simonsen) Peterson, was born 5 May 1944, in Grantsburg, Wisconsin. He resides on the family farm, "Four Cubs," along with his wife, Cris, and children.

Article taken from the Grantsburgh newspaper: Dairy breakfast this Saturday
The Peterson's Four Cubs Dairy Farm is the official hosts of the 1997 Siren Ag Association Burnett County Dairy Breakfast, to be held Saturday, June 14.

The breakfast, an annual affair, begins at 6 a.m. and serving continues until noon. The menu includes "Uncle Jack's Famous Wild Rice Pancakes" and a wide array of dairy products which includes classics such as tasty cheese, milk and ice cream. A tour of a working dairy farm, farm animals galore, door prizes and music are on the agenda.

The Peterson's Four Cubs Dairy Farm is a family farm. The original barn was built in 1895 and two additions were added in 1967 and 1986. Animal waste is stored in a pit that is pumped twice a year and applied to the soil around the farm. The farm has been in Gary's family since 1877. A major expansion is planned for the fall of 1997 when the herd will double in size. The Peterson family includes a son Ben, a University of Minnesota agronomy student, son Matthew, a Granstburg High School senior, and Caroline, a high school freshman. The Peterson's also operate an insurance business and Cris is a published author of children's stories and books. All of Cris' books have focused on agriculture and the interesting facets of farm life.

The Peterson's 450-acre farm is an enterprise of dairy, grain and forage. The Peterson's extend an open invitation to the public to come to the dairy breakfast and experience farm life on a modern dairy farm.

Notes for C
HRISTINE MARGARET HOEPPNER:
Christine Margaret Hoeppner, daughter of Willard "Bud" Charles and Carmen Nell (Fossum) Hoeppner, born on 25 October 1952, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Cris is a lady with many talents. She has published several books. This article was printed in the Grantsburg newspaper: Local author sees first children's book in print

Cris Peterson of Grantsburg is not new to writing. She has, for several years, authored a column that is published in daily newspapers across the country. Recently, she added a new book to her list of credits.

The book, title "Extra Cheese, Please!" is written for children. It features the making of milk, from Peterson's dairy cow Anabelle, into cheese. Colored photographs, taken by Alvis Upitis, highlight the book.

Peterson's book tells the story of how an individual cow produces milk which is then processed into cheese which, in the book, ends up on a pizza. The cow produces enough milk for 40,000 glass of milk each year, or enough to produce cheese to top 1,800 pizzas.

Several local youngsters are featured in photographs in the book, including the book jacket which shows Jordan and Nell Amundson of Grantsburg. Along with the Peterson children, Ben, Matt and Caroline.

Peterson worked on the book for 2 1\2 years before it was published. It will be distributed to some areas and will be available for public purchase on March 1, 1994. A total of 5,000 copies are in the initial printing. More will be published according to demand.

Peterson authors a column entitled "Huckeberry Bookshelf" in which she reviews and recommends books for childrens' reading. She receives many childrens books each month to review. Her column appears in such newspapers as the St. Paul Pioneer Press, Milwaukee Sentinel, Dallas Morning News, and Detroit Free Press, as well as in newspapers in other large cities.

In addition, she has authored articles for childrens' magazines such as "Highlights for Children."

Peterson is already working on her second children's book.

She and her husband Gary, and family, have farmed in Wood River township for many years.

In 1997 Cris was named WWIB Farm Woman of the Year. This is part of the article which appeared in the local paper:

To farm woman Cris Peterson, life on a dairy farm has meant far more than just a way to pay the bills.

As a lifestyle, it has given her and her husband, Gary, the chance to be with their children as they grew. And it has given her the opportunity to fulfill her dream of writing children's books.

Mrs. Peterson, who farms near Grantsburg in Burnett County, was chosen as the 1997 WWIB Farm Woman of the Year. The Eau Claire radio station made the selection February 20 at the Eau Claire Farm Show.

"Without the independence of being on the farm, I would never have been able to write," Mrs. Peterson said.

Mrs. Peterson has been writing for more than eight years. Her "Huckelberry Bookshelf" column appears weekly in The Country Today.

She is the author of a variety of farm books geared for children, including her latest one, "Horse Power," which describes the "wonder" of draft horses.

Last fall, she released "Harvest Year," which addresses the problem that too many people don't know where their food really comes from.

The freedoms of living on a dairy farm have enable Mrs. Peterson to educate children about argiculture, but it has also given her time to be with her own children.

"We were both home 100 percent when the kids were little. That's kind of the way it's supposed to be. My commute to the barn isn't really high stress,'' she said.

Marriage Notes for G
ARY PETERSON and CHRISTINE HOEPPNER:
Christine Margaret Hoeppner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willard C. Hoeppner, Minneapolis, became the bride of Gary Arnold Peterson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Peterson, Grantsburg, at a candlelight service 10 February 1973.

The double ring cermony took place at Diamond Lake Lutheran Church, Minneapolis, with pastors Gordon Bergin and Burton Bonn officiating. A reception followed at the Ormandy Village Inn.

Mr. Theodore Renna, Hanover, New Hampshire, was the matron of honor and Mark Nelson, St. Paul, was best man. Other attendents included Laura Keller, Pam Guptil, Nell Walker, Burnell Hanson Jr., Rick Hartzell, Lloyd Kallman, and Bill Hoeppner.

Hostesses at the reception were Mrs. George Strang, Mrs. Ron King, and Mrs. Charles Guptil. Mrs. Henry Peterson, mother of the groom, made the five tier cake for the reception.

The bride wore a gown of ivory faile taffeta trimmed with Venice lace. The dress had a high neckline and a deep double flounce which continued the length of the train. The full length veil was attached to a Juliet cap. She carried a bouquet of hot pink and cream roses.

The bridesmaids wore brown velvet gowns trimmed with cream satin, and they carried hot pink carnations and roses.

After a skiing trip to Aspen, Colorado, the couple is at home at Route 1, Grantsburg, where they operate a dairy farm.
