David Jr. was a private during the Seminole Indian War, in Captain. Jacob Summerlins Company, 6th Regiment, of Florida Militia. He enrolled on 15 November, 1835 and served until 26 March, 1836.

David Jr. and his father both served in Captain. Niblack's Company, 1st Regiment of Florida Militia. They enrolled on 27 January, 1837. They were mustered in at Ft. Lancaster on 26 March, 1837 and were mustered out at Ft. Gilliland on 5 June, 1837. They also both served in Captain. Enoch Everett Mizell's Company, 2nd Regiment, of East Florida Mounted Volunteers command by, Colonel. W.J. Mills. David Mizell Jr. was a Sergeant in this unit.

They enrolled on 16 June, 1837 at the New River Meeting house near Ft. White. On 1 October, 1837 the company was at Ft. Fanning, on 10 November, 1837 the company was on march to Ft. Gilliland, on 28th November, 1837 the company was on march to Ft. Mellon, and on 10 December, 1837 the company was on march to Ft. Gilliland. The company was mustered out on 18 December, 1837.

David Jr. served as a private from 13 September, 1838 to 13 January, 1839 in Captain. Arthur Robert's Company, of Colonel. R. Brown's 12th Regiment, of Florida Mounted Volunteers. He was mustered out at Ft. Warren on 1 November, 1839. David Jr. reenlist in this same company on 1 November, 1839. The company was stationed at Ft. Taylor, on 16 November, 1839. On 12 December, 1840 David Jr. contacted a severe cold which would later result in lung disease. Company records show David Jr. sick, and absent with leave from 23 April, 1840 until the company was mustered out on 1 May, 1840 at Newnansville Florida.

David Mizell Jr., and family were living in Columbia County, Florida in the 1840 census where they were enumerated between his father, David Mizell Sr., and family, and his father-in-law John Pearce (Pierce), and family.

David Jr. served another enlistment in his half-brother, Captain Enoch Everett Mizell's Company, 1st Regiment Bailey's, Florida Mounted Militia, from 22 August, 1840 when he was mustered in at Ft. Call until 29 November, 1840 when he was mustered out, at Ft. Lancaster.

On 19 July, 1843 David Mizell Jr., applied for a permit to settle upon 160 acres of unappropriated public land as per the provisions of the Armed Occupation Act. His land was described as the SW 1/4 of Section 29, Township 10 South, Range 22 East, which is located just West of Hawthorne, Alachua County, Florida.

David Mizell Jr., and family were residing in Alachua County, Florida in 1850 near Albert G. and Anne E. (Mizell) Roberts who were married in 1849.

On 16 January, 1852 David Jr. applied for bounty land based on his service in Captain E.E. Mizell's Company in 1837.
