43. Doctor Edward Lawrence PEIRSON was born on 15 Oct 1862 in Salem, MA. Edward (Ned) Peirson followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. He graduated from Harvard College in 1884 and received an MD from Harvard Medical School in about 1888.

After Medical School, he returned to Salem where he lived in his father's house at 13 Barton Square. In 1890, he joined the staff of Salem Hospital, although greatly expanded, still at it's original location on Charter Street. In 1915 he was elected President of the Medical Staff, serving until 1917. In 1915 he was appointed by the trustees to a committee of Doctors to advise the trustees and architects on the design and construction of a new hospital at "The Lookout" on Highland Ave. That same year, he was also appointed to a committee to hire a resident Pathologist and develop a pathological laboratory at the hospital.

He died on 18 Jan 1935 in Salem, MA. having served on the medical staff of the hospital for 44 years. He was buried in Harmony Cemetery, Salem, MA.

He was married to Genevieve SHREVE (daughter of Dr. Octavius Barrel SHREVE and Sarah Cox DALAND) on 11 Jun 1898 in Salem, MA. Genevieve SHREVE was born on 31 Aug 1868 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Her father was continuing his medical studies at the University of Edinbburgh when she was born. In July 1904, Genevieve bought the property at 621 Main Street in Cotuit, MA. At that time the property was a working farm and served as a summer residence for the Peirsons. Her brother, Ben Shreve, and sister, Mary Northey, also bought houses in Cotuit; at 765 and 674 Main Street respectively.

She died on 31 Dec 1922 in Salem, MA. She was buried in Harmony Cemetery, Salem, MA. Doctor Edward Lawrence PEIRSON and Genevieve SHREVE had the following children:

child45 i. Doctor Edward Lawrence PEIRSON was born on 11 Jun 1899 in Salem, MA. He graduated cum laude from Harvard College in 1921, and magna cum laude from Harvard Medical School in 1925. After a summer in Europe, he spent 3 years as a resident at Massachusetts General Hospital. In 1929 he returned to Salem where he lived and practiced medicine in the historic Mackey-Wheatland house at 374 Essex Street. He was the first Urological surgeon to practice in Essex County. Also in 1929, he was appointed to the staff of Salem hospital in 1929, becoming the 3rd generation of Peirsons to be on the Salem hospital staff and the 4th generation to practice medicine in that city. He became the chief of Urological services at both Salem and Lynn Hospitals. In 1955 he was named Chief of the Medical Staff at Salem Hospital. On April 3, 1937, in Boston, he married Marion Duane, who was born on 28 July, 1911, probably in or near Boston or Salem. They had no children. He died on 8 Mar 1956 in Salem, MA. by his own hand after a long period of illness He was buried in Harmony Cemetery, Salem, MA. She died in April 1992

child47 iii. Octavia PEIRSON was born on 23 Dec 1908 in Salem, MA. She married Lot Hamlin from Maine. He may have been related to a former Governor of Maine. They lived in Ipswich, Ma, and spent many winters in Hawaii. They had no children. She died on 24 Dec 1991 in Ipswich, MA. She was buried in Harmony Cemetery, Salem, MA.
