16. August Pepka (photo) was born on 2 Apr 1881 in Detroit, Mi. Part of the Kashuba people, living in the low land region, bordering the Baltic Sea, split off from Poland during the First Partition in 1772 to Prussia. The territory was returned to Poland after WWI in the Treaty of Versailles.
He is the Second in the family of 5 boys, John, August, Pete, Frank, and Joseph. One of his sister's name is Minn.
He lived on Moffet, Detroit, Michigan, were after his death, Elsie and Rose resided. He died on 20 Oct 1947 in Detroit, Mi. He was buried on 23 Oct 1947 in Mount Olivet Cemetary, Detroit, Mi.. Lot E-922 Sec 32. Found grave stone. Lived in the 7000 block of Miles, (near Harper & Van Dyke), in Detroit, until 1933. Recieved recongition from the President of Packard Motor Co. & War Production Boardfor some carburetor invention on the PT boats used in World War II, on Feb 10, 1943.
One of August's favorite activities with his grandsons was to cook a Bum Dinner in the basement coal furnace, consisting of fried pork chops and baked potatoes cooked inside of the furnace.
In the 1920 Census, August Peppke was 37, recorded in Vo. 124, Ed. 473, Sh. 7, Line 66.

17. Tethelia (Tilly) Bilicki Pepka (photo) was born on 29 Apr 1885 in Warsaw, Poland. Believe she was born in Krakow, Poland, in the southern part of Poland. Immigrated at the age of 2. She immigrated in 1900. She was buried in Jul 1956 in Mount Olivet Cemetary, Detroit, Mi.. Lot E-922 Sec. 32 She died on 19 Jul 1956 in Detroit, Mi. Buried at Mount Olivet Cemetary, Section 32 Tilly's mother died giving birth to twins, while on the boat to the United States. The twins died also. Tilly was raised by her Aunt Mary Bogotski, from Romulus, Michigan. Tilly became a citizen of the USA upon the marriage to August. Tilly was employed at local cigar manufacting plants in the Detroit area. Crab Funeral Home, Detroit, Michigan was used for many of the Pepka family.
In 1920 Census, Tilly is record as wife of August Peppke under the name Shafar age 34. Children were:

child i. Elsie Pepka Keenan Renshaw (photo) was born on 30 Dec 1904 in Detroit, Mi. She died in 1990 in Detroit, Mi. Elsie was latter remarried to Clifford Renshaw. After her father died, Elsie and Rose lived at 9340 Moffet, Detroit, Michigan.

child iii. Virginia Pepka Pinkowski was born in 1916 in Detroit, Mi. She died in 1986 in Moncks Corner, SC. Virginia had suffered from Scarlet Fever as a young child. The fever caused damage to a valve in her heart but was not seen until later in her life.
child iv. Rose Pepka (photo) was born on 23 Jun 1919 in Detroit, Mi.
