It appears that the name Pepka was Germanized to Pepke because of some dialects confusing the Pepka name with bad words.

iv. Peter Pepka (photo) was born in 1888 in Danzig, Poland, 40 miles south of the city. He died in 1938.
v. Joseph Pepka was born on 15 May 1891 in Danzig, Poland, 40 miles south of the city. He died in Oct 1968 in Pa. He had Social Security Number 172-14-0814.
