Although it is believed that she died from "Sleeping Sickness", and that might be what is written on her death certificate, we now believe that she died from complications due to sugar Diabetis. We came to this conclusion for several reasons. First of all, in 1942 very little was known about diabetis, and several of her children became diabetics late in life.
She was of American Indian decent on her mothers side, but name of tribe is unknown because the Indian tribes kept their own records of marriages, births and deaths, we have not been able to find any records of her or her mother except for marriage because they married outside of the tribe. These records were found in the courthouse in Noblesvill, Hamilton County,Ind. but list no date for the marriage of her parents or the birth of her or her sister Ethel Losey.
I remember her very well. As a child, I had to take cod liver oil and she was the only one I would take it for, because she always rewarded me with a `chocolate drop' candy if I took it. I remember that we lived with her and Grandad for a winter season while our home was rented out to "tourist", how she would let me mix the oleo, how I pulled an april fools joke on everyone by emptying the salt box and refilling it with `sand', boy did I get my rear end torn up that time by my mom!! Granma still loved me though. I always thought of her as an angel.
