James Goodridge (son of George Washington Goodridge and Mary Ann Hogan) was born April 03, 1890 in Minn., and died September 07, 1972 in San Gabriel, CA. He married Gertrude Hurkmans on April 20, 1920 in Saint Vibiana's Cathedral, Los Angeles, CA, daughter of Johannes Hurkmans and Johanna Wellens.

Jim was in the Army Transport Service from May 1917 to April 1918, serving on the U.S.S. Finland. He took part in an interesting navaengagement with five submarines in June of 1917. His ship was torpedoed on October 28, 1917. However, the ship was safely able to come into port and repaired. The U.S.S. Finland ran into trouble again on Septemebr 28, 1918 when it was damaged in a collision.

He was comissioned April 28, 1918. In round numbers he safely transported 30,000 troops to Europe.

Jim's daughters Marge Mc Daniel and Edna Hermsdorf hold plates from the U.S.S. Finland. Marge has two plates and Edna has one.

There are 2 birth certificates for James. One certificate states birth date of April 15, 1890, and the other April 3, 1890. April 3 is the day the family celebrated. Jim's birth records were destroyed by fire. Family members were able to get copies before they were destroyed.
