He is buried on the farm where he lived as well as Sarah and their children and
grandchildren. The farm was owned by his father James and lies in that part
of Stonington that is now Pendleton Hill. The farm lies partly in Stonington
and ppartly in Voluntown. In 1900 the bodies of James, Sarah, their sons Oliver,
Timothy and their wives, were removed to a well kept cemetery near Pendleton
Hill meeting house about 1/2 mile from the original burying ground.

Elizabeth Saunders was born Dec. 23, 1688 in Westerly, R.I., and died, April
9, 1731, in what is now North Stonington, CT., in his 43rd year. He resided on
a farm at Pendleton Hill North Stonington, where he was buried, and where his
widow, children, and grandchildren were also interred. In 1900 his body was
with that of two of his sons and their wives removed to the cemetery near Pendleton
Hill Meeting House, and at this time many of these bodies were quite well preserved.
His farm was formerly owned by his father, part of it in what is now Voluntown,
and continued in the family for about one hundred fifty years. With his wife
he joined the Stonington (Congregational Church), August 8, 1707, and with others,
they withdrew in 1727 to form the church at North Stonington. He married in
Milton, MA., Sarah Vose, born 8/30/1684. in that town, died in North Stonington,
12/25/1758. She was a daughter of Edward Vose, born in 1636, in England, died
in Milton, 1/29/1715, son of Robert Vose, born 1599 in Lancashire, Englandand
bought land in Milton, 7/13/1654. Sarah Vose's mother, Abigail, born 1646-1647,

James Babcock, Jr., son of Captain James and Elizabeth, settled with his wife
Sarqah Vose Babcock upon a farm in that part of Stonington which is now Pendleton
Hill, Nrth Stonongton. It was owned by his father Capt. James Babcock, and,
was found afterwards to lie partly in Stonington and partly in Voluntown. Much
of the land was rtetained in the family for more than a hundred and fifty years.
James and his wife Sarah joined Stonington Church, Congregational, Rev. James
Noyes, Pastoir, Aug. 8, 1708, and left with others to form the North Stonington
Church in 1727. Records of births, deaths and baptisms found on church and town
records.
James, Jr. dies in the 43rd year of his life, and was buried on the farm upon
which he lived; later his widow, children and grandchildren were buried neas
him. The burying ground havung been overgrown with bushes and briars, and beoing,
in a desolate, neglected spot, remote from the highway, Colonel Andrew J. Babcock,
of Springfield, Il, and Stephen Babcock, of NYC, the comprehensive compiler of
the Babcock Genealogy, in the autumn of 1900, caused the remains of James and
his wife, their sons, Oliver and Timothy and trheir wives, tp be reomved to a
well-kept cemetery adjacent to the Pendleton Hill Meeting House, which was about
a mile from the original burying ground. All of these bodies were found in a
measure preserved. although one of them had lain in the groung one hundred and
seventy years. Ten years previous to this removal the remains of Capt. Oliver
Babcock, Grandson of James and Sarah Vose Babcock, and that of Oliver's brother
Joshua and his wife had been removed to the same cemetery at Pendleton Hill.
His children were doubtless all born in what is now called (1908) the "Nathan
Pendleton House." This is the house where James, Jr. and Sarah Vose Babcock
lived. the store was burnt in 1866m, and, was not atached to the house as now.[Babcock.ftw]
