About Our Family Research

John C. Manary was born in Canada about 1829. He married Mary "Ellen" Berry born in Ireland about 1831. John & Ellen had 10 known children: Levi, Kattie, Esther, Ella, Eliza, Margaret, John, William, Henry, and Arthur. When their oldest child Levi was born the family resided in Madison, WI. Esther was the last child born in WI about 1859. Approximate years for most of the childrens birth were obtained from census records. Ellen was the first child born in Indiana. The family is therefore believed to move to Fort Wayne, IN in Allen Co. prior to 1862. The family is noted in the Allen Co., IN 1870 and 1880 census. John & Ellen also are noted in the 1890 Allen Co., IN Directory in Washington Twp. John worked as wrech foreman for the railroad in 1870. It is believed John worked for the Pitt. railroad. In 1880, John listed working as an assistant foreman in a car shop. Per newspaper articles obtained in Fort Wayne, IN John appears to return in the summers to a farm near Traverse City or Petosky. John & Ellen's daughter Ella married Henry Fleckenstine on 6-6-1888 in Fort Wayne,IN. It is believed that John C. Manary died in Kalkaska, MI but no source of documentation is available at this time. The documentation then continues with John C. & Ellen Manary's oldest child, Levi James Manary Sr. Levi Sr. married Mary E. Coons daughter of George W. & Martha J. (Jervis) Coons. Levi Sr. & Mary E. Coons were married 4-23-1877 in Wayne Co. Richmond, Indiana. They had 5 children: Charles, Ella, Levi James Jr., Catherine and Edward. "under construction" more to come!
