In his earlier career, he was a bellhop and elevator operator at the Drake Hotel, a Shipfitter First Class at the Philadelphia Navy Yard during WWII, and was also a professional painter and paperhanger. For several years, he was the proprietor of Al's Hardware Store on Fifth St in Philadelphia. He died on 28 Jul 1996 in Cinnaminson, NJ Parents: Camillo PORRECA and Camilla TETI.

He was a farmer in Torricella, living on Rua Sansone. He arrived in Philadelphia at the age of 38, having embarked from Naples on the ship Cachemire which arrived in New York on September 8, 1892. Manifest ID # 82181. The manifest indicates he was literate, and traveled Cabin class. He appears to have been accompanied by two other Porreca's Anne (age 24) and Domenico (age 25). These may have been cousins or niece/nephew.
Microfilm at National Archives in Phila: Manifest shows arrival of ship Rynland at Port of Philadelphia 3 June 1903. Angelo is passenger #28. Details show: he could read and write, he was previously in Phila 1899-1902, he is visiting his son Camillo Porreca at 731 Fitzwater St. There are a number of other passengers (from Gessopalena and Torricella) that may be related. It appears that Angelo had several visits to the USA: 1902-?, 1899-1902, 1903-?. Parents: Domenicantonio PORRECA and Perseda PELLICCIOTTA .

Returning at some point to Torricella, Camillo immigrated with his wife Camilla about 1903 to Phila. He was a coal miner in Hazelton, PA, an elevator operator at the Drake Hotel in Philadelphia, and is believed to have worked on the railroads in his earlier trip to America. He also worked at Breyers Ice Cream plant in Philadelphia. He died in 1944 in Phila. He resided at 1326 Morris St. from about 1940 on in Phila, PA. According to an earlier record, at the time of his marriage he lived at 731 Fitzwater St. Per his son Bill, his father Camillo played the accordion, and he spoke English before he came to America.
