256. David PORTER
(18) was born about 1736 in Pennsylvania.
Some sources say he was born in Lexington, Rockbridge Co., Va.
He died about 20 Mar 1810 in Dearborn Co., Indiana. He was buried in Dearborn
Co., Indiana ?. American Revolutionary Veteran (Possibly married 3 times).
David was
for 5 years a soldier in the British Army during the french and
Indiana War. Later he served with George Washington's Army for 5 more
years.
After that he located at a point where Cincinnati later sprang up.
While there, in 1795, he waited until General Wayne made a treaty with
the Indians. At the time he was in Cincinnati, there was only one
brick house and one log cabin in what is now known as Lawrenceburg,
Indiana. He settled in that area.
He was a private in the 13th Virginia Regiment.
He was possibly married to Agnes Veal in 1765.
He was married to Nancy LONGWELL about 1792. 257.
Nancy LONGWELL was born about 1772 in Virginia. She died in 1826 in Dearborn
County, Indiana. Census of 1820 said she was above 45 yrs. of age. She could
have spelled her last name as Longwell.

Alexander PORTER was born on 8 Jul 1799 in Dearborn County, Indiana. He
died on 9 Sep 1891 in Decatur County, Indiana. He was buried in Union Baptist
Cemetery. Buried in Union Baptist Cemetery ?born8/8/1799 died9/9/1881
Alexander penetrated the wilderness of the Indiana Territory in an
early day settlement of this section of the same. He moved to Decatur
Co. in 1830. |
