ELEVENTH GENERATION

1024. John II POUND was born about 1650 in , , <Virginia>. He died on 26 Jan 1717 in , Richmond, Virginia. On 1 August 1694, John Morgan of North Farnham Parish, Richmond County,
Virginia, a Blacksmith, sold to John Pond of same parish and county, for 17.1
pounds sterling, 100 acres on the west side of Totuskey Creek in North Farnham
Parish; formally purchased of William Landman by William Clayton.
In a will of William Lambert of Richmond County, Virginia dated 4 April 1716,
states within the will "daughter Elizabeth, 50 acres of land bought of John
Pound on the West side of Totuskey Creek,...
John made his will in 1717, whereas, the said John's will was recorded 5 March
1717 by Stanley Grower. an inventory of his estate was conducted 5 Feb 1717.
His will dated 26 January 1717 states in part..."To my eldest son John, one
shilling; My son Thomas, My daughter Margaret Smith, to my son Samuel Pound and
my daughter Margaret Smith, my sole estate". This will proved in open court by
oaths of Zachariah Hefford and John Newman was witnessed by Sarah Pound, son
Thomas Pound, son Samuel Pound and daughter Margaret Smith........ This will
does not mention John's wife Elizabeth...unless the witness Sarah was
indeed Elizabeth, or maybe, Sarah was another wife and Elizabeth had
died earlier. John Newman may have served in part to care for the children of
John, as later, John's son Samuen named one of his children Samuel..........
John Pound is listed as an "Executor, Friend" to the will of Zachary Hefford
dated 30 September 1703, recorded 2 February 1703/1704 in Richmond County,
Virginia. John's son John was listed in this same will. He was married to Elizabeth JOY on 28 Oct 1683 in Middlesex, Christ Church, Virginia.

1025. Elizabeth JOY was born about 1662. She has reference number 1025. Children were:

child512 i. John III POUND.
child ii. Thomas POUND was born in 1687 in Middlesex, Christ Church, Virginia. He died on 4 Mar 1718 in , Richmond County, Virginia. Thomas' Estate Inventory dated March 4, 1718, recorded April 1, 1719 Richmond
County, Virginia by Robert Tomlin, John Gower, William Smith.................
Thomas Pound Sr. died when his daughter was a very young girl.
Did Margaret (Bradley) Pound marry #2 a Mr. Pursell and have issue
Catherine Pursell? In her mother's will she mentions "...daughters Margaret
Pursell and Elizabeth Smith; grandchildren of Thomas Pound, Elizabeth Pound and
Catherine Pursell." Son-in-law Tobias Pursell is one of the executors.
Margaret Pound's husband? Will of Elizabeth Bradley dated 23 September 1723,
recorded 6 November 1723 in Sittenburne Parish, Essex County, Virginia "...
daughters Margaret Pursell and Elizabeth Smith; grandchildren Thomas Pound,
Elizabeth Pound and Catherine Pursell." Tobias Pursell son-in-law was one of
the witnesses. Margaret Pound's husband?
Thomas Pound died in 1718. A little earlier in the same year, his brother John
Pound Jr. died...that left one brother (Samuel Pound) to survive. In about
1735, this same Samuel moved from Richmond County Virginia to Germanna, County
Seat of Orange County Virginia, and it is my opinion as well as others that
he took his nephew (John Pound III) and raised him as his son. John Pound III
began appearing in Orange and Culpepper Counties of Virginia in 1737.
child iii. Samuel POUND was born in 1690 in Middlesex, Christ Church, Virginia. He died about 1758 in Germanna, Orange County, Virginia. Following data from Carla Jayne Gross Machate, 2701 Maple Ave., Waco, Texas
76707-1341. Court Report dated 12 October 1714, North Farnham Parish, Richmond
County, Virginia. Samuel Pound is one of the Testis'. Samuel Pound moved from
Richmond County, Virginia to Germanna, the county seat of Orange County,
Virginia. On 14 June 1735, he received a lease from Alexander Spotswood for
100 acres adjoing the Courthouse. on 28 June 1750, Samuel, aged about 60
years, made a deposition in Orange County Court and stated his son, William
Pound, was born 16 October 1724 and that he hired him to John Smith,
under-sheriff to William Russell, Gentleman, and was in said Smith's service
atthe time the Plaintiff's writ was served on Theophelas Eddis.
Note: Is John Smith the oldest son of Margaret (Pound) Smith, Samuel Sr.'s
sister?
Samuel Pound is thought by this writer to have been born in Richmond County,
Virginia...however, he may have been born at Christ's Church Parish, Middlesex
County, Virginia about 1690. I also believe he may have died at Germanna,
Orange County, Virginia in 1758.
