(13) He died on 14 Aug 1959 in Van Nuys, Los Angeles Co, CA.(14) He was buried on 18 Aug 1959 in Valhalla Memoria. He has reference number GUY_H. They lived in KNOXVILLE 1900 - 1930, Guy purchased a two lots
north of Knoxville April 21, 1919 and athird February 12, 1920.
Guy H Rader was a long time oil salesman. He worked for Texaco
and I don't know how many different companies. That was his
profession up until he reached retirement time and got into two or
three small businesses. He traveled in the Appalachian Mountains and
his principle customers was coal mine people. He worked for Texaco in
California and then he had a distributorship. He knew all of the old
Texaco men. You know the founders of it.
Guy Rader was a salesman for Keystone Oil Co. and you know coal
mining is a big industry in east Tenn. and especially southern
Kentucky and Knoxville is the only real sizable city in the area so
Knoxville is the headquarters of a lot of mining business.
Kenneth Metcalf said, "He was a real fine man he helped us so
much when my father died. My father died when I was 12 or 13. Uncle
Guy helped mother find a lot and bought it. He did a lot of things for
us. Helped a lot through that time. Then later on I guess that was
when I was going to the University."
They raised their family in Knoxville. They rented the first
house they lived in was at the east end of Gibbs Road. Gibbs road
runs east and west and it is where gibbs road impacts on ? Taswell.
They later built a larger house of their own back towards. Gibbs road
is a fairly short road, not more than a mile long. There is a
standard sort of two story white house. They were there in 1924-1926
and longer. He purchased lots 48 and 49 April 21, 1919. He purchased
110 Tennessee Ave Feb 12, 1920, Mildred was about in the first grade,
not more than second grade when they moved there. They lived on gibbs
road until she was about 17 or 18 years old. They sold and moved
elsewhere in Knoxville after that. They lived there until dad went to
Seattle.
The High school was about a mile from where we lived. They went
into Fountain city and then went up the hill to the left. Their Aunt
Lois Metcalf lived up near the school. She just lived down the hill
and around the hill from the school.
They lived in SEATTLE 1930 - 1935. I think he was working for a
petroleum company then. I guess they were in the seattle area for 5
years.
They lived in LONG BEACH 1935 - 1939. They do not appear on the
1930 thru 1933 Long Beach directories. It seems his principal
customers was ocean going ships and he would outfit them with all of
their petroleum products. I guess he called on ship companies all of
the way up and down the coast.
His son Tom was shown at the same address in 1935 and listed as
running a Texaco Gas station at 2586 Atlantic Av. Tom listed 6640
Lime Ave as his residence on his marriage license 14 JUL 1936
They do not appear on the 1939 directory.
They lived in FILLMORE - SANTA PAULA 1939 - 1943. They are not
in 1944 books. They moved to VAN NUYS 1945 - 1959.
He got into the chicken business and he did real well in the sash
and door business. In March 19, 1945 Guy H. Rader lived at 7745
Sepulveda Blvd, Van Nuys, CA ( Thomas Glenn's birth record done 35
years after birth). From June 1947 through Mar 1952 the directories
