This is a home page for the descendants of Ishmael Reaves (Reeves). The name may be spelled Reaves or Reeves as it changed based on who spelled it. Ishmael was born a slave in 1830 in North Carolina. The slave master is believed to be Thomas Reeves who owned land in Orange county North Carolina. He and his slaves moved to Ray county Missouri during the 1840s prior to 1847. Ishmael had 8 children. Two were born while he was a slave, Caroline and Anderson. Six were born to his wife LouCinda. Charles Albert, George Washington, Mary Belle, John Franklin, Lotta and either Thomas Marshall or William.
I am a grandson of John Franklin Reaves who settled in Oklahoma and then Kansas. Our family has grown and we now have relatives in all areas of the country.
We held our first family reunion in 1992 in Hutchinson, KS. A few years later in 1997 one was held in Albuquerque, NM and again in 1998 in San Antonio, TX. Since that time we have settled on haveing family reunions bi-annually. It was in Stone Mountain, GA in 2000 and in Albuqureque, NM in 2002. The next is scheduled for July 3 - 10, 2004. There will be a cookout on July 4th and the cruise will be July 5 - 10, 2004. Additional details will be posted as they become available.
We would love to contact descendants of the other siblings in order to make our reunions bigger and better. If you or someone you know is descendant to someone with the surname Reaves or Reeves, please contact me and I will be delighted to exchange information.
