An obituary for Richard A. Edwards appearing in the West-Lane News two weeks ago contained some inaccuracies due to erroneous information from the funeral home. The family has asked that a corrected obituary be printed. Richard Albert Edwards of Florance died June 6 at the age of 57. Funeral services were held at West Lawn Memorial Park in Eugene. Mr. Edwards was born Aug. 6, 1927 in Jasper. He was employed with Champion International for 35 years. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn M. of Florence; children, Debra Bender and John Edwards, both of Florence, brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Eleanor Edwards of Veneta; sister and brother-in-law, Violet and Leonard Shafer of Veneta; mother, Gladys Edwards of Veneta; bothers-in-law, Jack Stanley of Eagle, Nebraska and Harold Stanley of Elmira; Stepbrother,Walter And David Roberts, both of Portland; sister-in-law, Lucille Fowler of Bend; Mother-in-law Helen Roberts of Elmira; two grandchildren, Rebecca and Amy Bender, both of Florence; and numerous nieces and nephews. Murphy-Musgrove Riverside Chapel was entrusted with funeral arrangements.

On Oct. 10, 1967 William E Ried was hit in the head with a pile driver while working on the Green Petter Dam, out side of Sweet Home, Oregon. He recoverd and worked at West Coast Mfg. Mill until the Dr. told him he had to retire in 1980. He also worked on a movie before he was hurt and in the Bakery for Mayflour.

On July 7, 2001 we took a trip to winchester bay, Oregon for the weeken. Christy Ofsthun And I took My 1978 Goldwing 1000 bike for the trip, we whent down Smith River road that goes from Crow, Oregon via Wolf Creek Road, Left home in Ventea, Oreogon about 9am and about 10:30 am just past the Smith River Falls Camp Grounds at Doe Creek Road a black bear about one year old or so was running down the side of the hill came up an out of the ditch and hit us on the bike right at the front of the motor, I was able to keep the bike up and got it to a stop to check what damage to the bike which was a little then check to see what had hapen to the bear and found that it had been killed from the inpact and was back in the ditch. We decided to go on with our trip. After we got to Winchester Bay we went to the bar there and I gave Christy $5.00 dollars and I took $5.00 dollars and we put it in the lotto machines and Christy won $71.50 dollars and I won $50.00 dollars so we just figuared that we were lucky for not dumpping the bike and getting hurt and we also caught some real nice size crab that weeken.
