John Luke (son of John Luke and Christian Gillespie) was born 9 October 1796 in Lecropt near Bridge of Allan, and died 30 April 1881 in Waulkmill, Crook of Devon. He married Isabella Guthrie on 7 December 1823 in Dunblane, daughter of John Guthrie.

John Luke was elder in Fossoway Church at Crook of Devon from 1847, till 1881, succeeded by his son James from 1881 till 1916. Both are buried in Fossoway Churchyard, with commemmorative plaque in the church.
Two unnamed sons who died in infancy are also buried in Fossoway churchyard.
John Luke with probably a brother James, owned the Waulkmill paper mill at Crook of Devon.
He lived laterly at 19 Waulkmill.
About 1809 John started an apprenticeship at the Airthey paper mill near Bridge of Allan, which was owned by Mr Ferguson, who signed his completion certificate. He joined his father at the Lint mill at Crook of Devon in 1826.
