William Luke (b. 20 May 1829, d. 24 December 1912)

William Luke (son of John Luke and Isabella Guthrie) was born 20 May 1829 in Fossoway, and died 24 December 1912 in Beechfield, Baltimore County, Maryland, USA. He married Rosalind Thomson Lindsay on 1856 in Trenton, New Jersey, USA, daughter of Adam Lindsay and Jean Hogarth.

Notes for William Luke:
William emmigrated to the USA, in 1852, where he worked for some years as a machine tender and beater man. He went to the Rockland plant of Jessop and Moore at Wilmington, Delaware, where he later became General Manager. Later he and his sons set up The West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company.
He took part in the Civil War on the Union side, with the 5th Delaware Regiment, and became a US citizen on 18/10/1864.
His wife Rosa was born in Scotland, having emmigrated to the USA as an infant with her parents.
