Notes for JOHN WING, JR.:
John is buried at the Dillingham Burying ground in Harwich, Mass. His younger brothers Daniel and Stephen both married and became the heads of families before John took unto himself a wife. The supposition is that he lived with his mother and kept the family together until his brothers were well settled before making a home for himself. John seems to have lived on with his mother and younger brother until about the year 1645, when , at the seasoned bachelor age of 32, he took unto himself a wife. Elizabeth Dillinghan was the daughter of Edward Dillingham and Ursula Carter. For his second wife he married Miriam Deane, daughter of Stephen Deane of Plymouth, Mass, and Elizabeth Ring (Cooke). His widow Miriam surived him two or three years. Miriam made a will which was dated 24 may 1701, and was probated in January, 1702-03. It gives the principal part of her property, inherited from her parents, To Deane Smith of Chatham, Mass, whose mother was "her sister Bethia Smith of Monomoith." The inventory of her personal property was taken in January, 1702-03, and its value was assessed at seventy-eight pounds, twelve shillings and two pence." Kenelm Winslow was her administrator.
She was buried at Dillingham Burying Ground in Harwich, Mass.,
The Plymouth court records, 7 Jan 1642, makes mention that "John Winge" was sworn on the Grand Inquest with Walter Deane, Josias Winslowe, John Winslow, Richard Sparrow, Henry Bourne, Humfrey Turner, Richard Church, Samuel Nash, Henry Ewell, Mr. Anthony Thatcher, Steven Tracy, John Willis, Thomas Ensigne, Mr. Henry Feake, Xpofer Waddsworth, John Matthews, John Dunhame, Sr., and Thomas Rawlins. " The Grand Inquest was what in modern term would be called the Grand Jury, and its duties were to examine into crimes and misdemeanors of the Colony. The Plymouth Court records also show that January 8, and also June 8, 1655, that John Wing served upon the Grand Inquest at Plymouth, and that upon 4 Oct 1655, he served as a juryman upon a trial of Susanna Leathem for cruelty to her servant. He served on the Grand Inquest at the term commencing 6 Jun 1667.
