Samuel and his descendants are consideredthe "Connecticut Treadwells" and are also the first ones to use the spelling "Treadwell".
At the time Samuel was born, New Haven, Ct., was actually a separate colony known as the Colony of New Haven. It wasn't until 1662 that New Haven became a part of the Colony of Connecticut by way of a charter obtained by John Winthrop, Jr.
This is a quote from Charles Wall:
"There was a continuing threat of Indian attacks in the year of 1679 proved to be hard year as the Mohawks and Western Indians plotted against the English. Each homestead was advised to procure two large pieces of artillery and train for duty. The town people continued to purchase land from the Indians to secure their welfare. Samuel is recorded as attending a Fairfield Town Meeting on 4 Apr 1681 and objecting to building a stone wall and fort on the common to repel the Indians. He and the inhabitants of Pwqunonnock including his wife's brothers, Isaac, Timothy and Ephraim Wheeler protested on 11 May 1691 the inclusion of Pequnonnock in Fairfield's taxation for a school since they already had a school, but the petition for separation of Fairfield and Pequnonnock was denied."
Recorded as having 245 acres of land Dec 1681 in Pequnonnock (became Stratfield, Ct)
