WILLIAM WILCOXSON (b. 1601, d. 28 Nov 1653)
WILLIAM WILCOXSON (son of JOHN WILCOXSON and JOANNE GRUNDICK) was born 1601 in ST. ALBANS, HERTFORDSHIRE, ENGLAND, and died 28 Nov 1653 in STRATFIELD, CT.. He married MARGARET BIRDSEYE on 1632 in ENGLAND, daughter of JOHN BIRDSEYE and ELIZABETH ANDREWS.

William ancestor of all that surname in the vicinity of Stratford, Connecticut, came from England to America on the sailing ship "Planter" which sailed from Liverpool, England on the morning of 2 Apr 1635, just 15 years after the arrival of the Pilgrims in Massachusetts. 38 adults and children reported aboard the ship that April morning ready to be transported across the Atlantic Ocean to New England on the "Planter" Nicholas Rico Travis, Master. The parties having brought certificates from the minister at St. Albans in Hergordshire and attestations from the Justice of the Peace according to the Lord's Orders Included in the passenger list was William Wilcoxson age 34, his wife Margaret age 24, and a 2 year old son John. The ship "Planter" arrived in Boston Harbor on 26 May 1635 after a 56 day passage across the Atlantic Ocean. From the Customs House records it appears that William was a linen weaver by trade. He was given "Freeman" status in the Massachusetts Colony on 7 Dec 1636. He settled in Concord, Mass., upon his arrival there he resided until 1639. They had two children in Concord, Ma.
At the very beginning of its settlement, Stratford, Conn was called Pequennocke, then changed to Cupheag Plantation, and then to Stratford. The earliest map of Stratford (as it was in 1639) shows seventeen families living there. William's lot was in the center of the town; his neighbors were William Beardsley and John Peat. Across the street, lived the widow Elizabeth Curtis.
William was selected to serve his town as Deputy in the Connecticut Assembly and was on intimate terms with Governors Winthrop and Bulkley.
Margaret remarried in 1664 to William Hayden of Windsor, Conn. Later removed to Killingworth, Ct.
In Stratford, six more children were born to William and Margaret. Their entire family comprised of nine children, all of whom lived to adulthood, married and had families of their own.
Hannah married her step-brother Daniel Hayden.
