Notes for WILLIAM HOLBROOK:
When William died in 1625 he divided his goods among his sons Thomas, John, and William, his daughter Basell Holbrook, and his three grandsons (including Clement Weaver, Jr) Clement Weaver, Sr. was one of the overseers.
Many early Puritans and Baptists came from England to New England during the 1630's and members of this family are no exception. In 1630 the Winthrop Fleet, comprised of 11 ships, brought "the Great emigration." The ships were ARBELLA the flagship, AMBROSE, TALBOT, JEWEL. CHARLES, MAYFLOWER, WILLIAM AND FRANCIS, HOPEWELL, WHALE, SUCCESS, and TRIAL. Clement Weaver may have come with this group. His brother in law, Thomas Holbrook, settled in Weymouth, Mass in 1635, but a Weymouth historian named Nash believed that Weaver came before Holbrook, but after 1630. In 1643 Thomas Holbrook and Clement Weaver are listed as adjoining land owners in Weymouth, but between 1643 and 1651 Weaver moved to Newport, Rhode Island.
