JAMES McCORMICK (son of THOMAS McCORMICK and MATILDA PATTERSON) was born 03 May 1645 in KILTENY, COLERAINE CO., IRELAND, and died Bef. 1738 in LONDONDERRY, DERRY CO. IRELAND. He married SARAH McTARE WELSH on 1693 in COLERAINE CO., IRELAND, daughter of JONATHAN WELSH.

Captain James McCormick is mentioned frequently in accounts of the seige of Londonderry in 1689. At this time, Derry, or Londonderry, was the chief stronghold of Protestantism in the north of Ireland. As a defender in the seige, Capt. James McCormick was pitted against the forces of James II, who was making, then, his final, futile move for restoration. The name Capt James McCormick is inscribed on a stained glass window in Londonderry Cathedral. This memorial window, honoring the defenders, was unveiled in 1913, and among the subscribers are the following names: Cyrus Hall McCormick, Leander James McCormick.

One of the signers of an address to William III and Mary, dated 29 July 1689.
