James Brackin is found in the Pendleton District, South Carolina in the 1800 census. The 1810 and 1830 census of Buncombe County, North Carolina and the 1840 census of Henderson County, North Carolina. Apparently he also owned land in Greenville County, South Carolina in the area of Traveler's Rest. There is a deed of sale of James Brackin, dated 6 February 1822 in Greenville, South Carolina. The land James lived on in North Carolina, near the Gloucester Community, was first in Buncombe County, later in Henderson County and is now in Transylvania County, North Carolina.
