2. JOHN2 CALLAHAN (JOHN1) was born 15 January 1746 in Brandywine, Pennsylvania, and died September 1837 in Giles County, Tennessee. He married JANE TEMPLETON.

OHN CALLAHAN:
The Gaelic for Callahan is Ceallacain (pronounced call-a-caw-in). The "O" (like Mac or Mc) means son of, daughter of, related to, from. The O'Callaghan's are descended from a tenth century king. The clan originated in Cork.

A branch moved to County Clare. The town is now named O'Callaghan's Mills.

The clan Latin motto is "Fidux et Audax", meaning "Faithful and Bold". The coat of arms shows a forest, a wolf hound, a raised arm and a sword.

The extensive O'Callaghan lands and property were confiscated by the British.

      CALLAHAN, JOHN (b. 1-15-1748, d. 9- -1837 in Giles Co., Tenn.) married Jane Templeton

On the 1830 Federal Census of Giles County, Tennessee there is a John Callahan and his wife, both listed at ages (90-100)

In a neighboring household is a Jane Callahan as head of household, age (40-50) with children, 1 male (5-10) 1 male (15-20) and 2 females (10-15).

In yet another neighboring household is William Callahan as head of household at age (40-50) and his wife at age (30-40) with 1 male (under 5), 2 males (5-10), 2 females (under 5) and 2 females (5-10).

We have a copy of deed dated 27 July 1815 conveying 107 1/1 acres of land from Jacob Bogard to John Callahan in Giles County.

In 1817 John Callahan sold 100 acres of land to William Callahan for $100.00. This deed was recorded 24 May 1817.

On the 3rd day of June 1823, John Callahan deeded 100 acres of land to Milas Callahan in consideration of love and affection that he had for his son. William Callahan was one of the witnesses at the registration.
