99. BENJAMIN FRANKLIN⁸ CALLAHAN (BEN COLBERT⁷, LONNIE CARLTON⁶, JOHN HENRY⁵, ALFRED BURTON⁴, ROBERT SIDNEY³, HENRY², JOHN¹) was born 07 October 1947 in Cabarrus County, North Carolina. He married JANET BETH BLACK 28 December 1969 in Cabarrus County, North Carolina, daughter of CLINTON BLACK and RUTH HAMMILL.

Notes for BENJAMIN FRANKLIN CALLAHAN:
Ben ("Benny") Callahan was the first child of Ben and Pinky Callahan. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1965 and attended Catawba College in Salisbury, NC where he received a BA Degree in History in 1969. Ben continued his education at UNC-Chapel Hill and received a Masters Degree in History in 1973. During graduate school, he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served from 1970-72 as a Military Police Officer, working in Viet Nam as a Marijuana Detector Dog Handler for the 18th MP Brigade, CID (Customs).

After completing his military service and receiving his graduate degree, Ben was employed as a Police Officer with the town of Chapel Hill, NC. He served the CHPD as a Patrol Officer, criminal investigator and Administrative Assistant to the Chief of Police from 1973-1982. In 1982, he also received his Masters Degree in Public Administration from UNC-CH. In 1982, he accepted a position as a Police Lieutenant with the Carrboro, NC Police Department and was promoted to Captain in 1986. In 1992, he was appointed Chief of Police of the Carrboro Police Department.

Notes for JANET BETH BLACK:
Janet Black Callahan graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1967. She continued her education at UNC-Greensboro and at UNC-Chapel Hill, where she received a BS Degree in Medical Technology in 1971. After graduation from UNC-CH, Janet worked for UNC Hospitals for ten years. In 1983, she took a position as an area representative for Instrumentation Laboratories. In 1985, she accepted a position as a research scientist with Organon Teknika Corporation and was employed with that company until 1996. In 1996, Janet left the scientific world and began her own business as the owner of a Decorating Den franchise in Chapel Hill, NC.
