Dollie was listed on the 1880 census in Township 6 Range 6 Lawrence County, Alabama at the age of 17, and "helped with the housework".


Mentioned as a surviving sister, Dollie Roberts, in the obituary of William B.
Rhodes in April 26, 1944 issue of the Decatur Daily and living on Route 1, Moulton, Alabama.

Mrs. Roberts' Rites Sunday

      Final rites for Mrs. Mary B. Roberts, 87, Moulton 2, will be held Sunday at 2 P. M. at Johnson's Chapel.

      Mrs. Roberts, a native of Lawrence county, died at her home about 6:45 P. M. Friday.

      She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Andy Roper, Austinville; a son Jewel Roberts, Moulton 2; five step daughters: Mrs. Daisy Woodall, Tyler, Tex.; Mrs. John Edwards and Mrs. Essie Key, Hartselle; Mrs. Lona Shaw and Mrs. Erby Betterton, Birmingham.

      The rites will be conducted by Rev. Cabe Smith. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery, Brown of Decatur directing.

      Pallbearers will include Casey Roper, Ernest Delashaw, Price Delashaw, William Roper, J. W. Parker and Willie Delashaw.

EORGE WASHINGTON ROBERTS:
According to Jasper Carl Roberts of Decatur, Alabama, George W. Roberts was with the Union forces during the Civil War. Other than the birth date, he appears to be listed in the Confederate Census of Morgan County, Alabama, along with two of his brothers, Joseph H. and William J. Roberts. These names appear on page 52, lines 176 - 178, directly below the name of William M. Rhodes. The listing is as follows:

178. Roberts, George W.      Born in the spring of 1841 (according to census
                  records he was born 8 June 1848) at Sparta, White
                  County, Tenn. Entered service as private in the                         Spring of 1861 at Sparta, Tenn. in Capt. C. C.                         Shields' Company B, 16th Tenn. Infantry for one                         year enlistment. Re-enlisted as a private in the

Roberts (37), mother of 1, 1 living; Herd Roberts (15), attended school 9 months, unemployed 3 months; Madgie P. Roberts (13), attended school 4 months; Essie R. Roberts (9); Sallie May Roberts (6); Arthur W. Roberts (4).

Thirteenth Census of the United States Shady Grove Precinct No. 16, Morgan County, Alabama, taken 15 April 1910 by S. A. Swindell, enumerator lists George W. Roberts (62), married 13 years, Merchant - Retail Store; M. B. Roberts (46). mother of 5, 3 living; Sallie Roberts (14); Arthur Roberts (12); Jewel Roberts (6); Zola Roberts (4).

Fourteenth Census of the United States Kitchen's Beat No. 12, Lawrence County, Alabama, taken 21 January 1920 by Paul Nesmith, enumerator, lists Mary B. Roberts (54), widowed, as head of household with Jasper J. Roberts (17) and Zola F. Roberts (13) in residence.

An interesting fact on this census is that Mary B. is neighbor to Margaret Elizabeth (Rhodes) Owens, daughter of George W. Rhodes, Mary's brother.

Funeral services for Rue G. Owens, 79, will be held Wednesday at 2:30 P.M. at Cedar Creek Church. Reverend D. C. Prince will conduct the rites. Interment will follow in adjacent cemetery, Peck directing.

Mr. Owens died this morning at 3:30 o'clock after a long illness. He succumbed at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Allen Braswell, Hartselle 3. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Braswell; Mrs. Clarence Patterson; Barberton, Ohio; Mrs. Ray Presley, Kent, Ohio; Mrs. Homer Green, Cullman 9; Mrs. Joe Speakman, Cullman; four sons, Charlie, Louisville, Kentucky; Bill and Ernest, Cullman; and Elmer, Akron, Ohio; 43 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The deceased was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

He married SUSAN CATHERINE CALLAHAN 4 August 1891 in Oakville, Precinct 9, Lawrence County, Alabama, daughter of HENRY CALLAHAN and LOUISA LIVINGSTON.

In residence are Daniel W. Rhodes (26), born July 1873, married 8 years, Susan Catherine Rhodes (25), born February 1875, mother of 5, 4 living, Monroe W. (7), Rachel E. (6), Lutie W. (2) and Utheard W. (8/12). His brother, George W. Rhoads and his family are several farms up the road, as is his nephew William Rhoads and his family. Several Callahan families are in the area.

Rhodes (36), married 18 years, working as a car repairer in the Railroad Shops as head of household living at 1222 Third Avenue South, with wife Susan C. (35), mother of 5, 4 living, Monroe W. (17), working in Railroad Shops as Machine Hand, Rachel E. (16), Lutie W. (12) and Utheard W. (10).

Fourteenth Census of the United States, Justice Precinct Ellis County, Texas taken 26-27 January 1920 by H. E. Perkins, enumerator, Enumeration District 130, Sheet 5A lists Daniel Rhodes (46) Farmer, Susan, wife, (44), Lutie (23), Elvis (26) and Utheard W. (20), and Louisa E. Callahan, mother in law, (66) in household.

In adjacent resident is his oldest son, Monroe W. Rhodes (27), farming employee, with wife Mary (22), whose father and mother were born in Tennessee, and daughter Frances (8/12).

Carpenter Dies After Sticking Nail in Foot

      Daniel W. Rhodes, age 60 years, a carpenter, died at his home at 404 West Milam Street, this morning at 1:50 with tetanus. He stuck a nail in his foot July 4 and developed tetanus several days ago.

      Surviving are his wife and four children, a daughter, Mrs. Homer Tomlin of Mexia, and three sons, M. W. Rhodes of Hallsville; L. W. Rhodes of Mexia and U. W. Rhodes of Corsicana, all of whom are here. Eleven grandchildren also survive.

      He was born July 24, 1873, in Lawrence County, Ala., and came to Texas in 1911. They lived at Howard for a few years, then moved to Crisp where they lived for three years. They had lived in Ennis for the past twelve years.

      Funeral arrangements are pending.
