Notes for J
OHN RICHARDSON:
John served in the War of 1812 as a Private in the 12th and 13th Regiment with the Louisiana Militia. He came to Texas from Mississippi to help in the fight and served in the 2nd Regiment of Texas Volunteer 6th Company Texas Infantry, Texan Revolutionary Army. He served under the command of Captain James Gillespie and Lt. Matthew Finch. There is a monument across the street from Sam Houston's grave site in Huntsville, Texas that has John Richardson's name on it. It is a large monument. John received several land grants for his service to Texas. File # 1-000205 in Harris County, # 1-000533 in Milam County. It appears as if John sold these grants which was common in those times, and returned to Simpson County, Mississippi, picked up his family, including John Jr., and moved back to Jasper County, Texas, where both can be found on the 1840 Jasper County tax rolls. John and John Jr. received a 3rd Class Land Grant which shows that they had come back to Texas in December 1838, Jasper County # 3-00003 Certificate # 62.

      Children of J
OHN RICHARDSON and NANCY ALLBRITTON are:

Notes for R
EBECCA POOL:
Jasper County census taken 18 December 1850 lists Rebecca Richardson (52) head of houshold, born in Georgia. In residence are Nancy (35), born in Mississippi, William (33) (Shoemaker), born in MS, George (22), born in MS, James (20) , Sarah (18), Ripley (16), Rebecca (14), Letty (12) - all born in Texas.

      Children of B
ENJAMIN RICHARDSON and NANCY HENDRICKS are:
  i.   JANE3 RICHARDSON, b. Abt. 1795, Bulloch County, Georgia.

16. vi.   MARTHA (PATSY) RICHARDSON, b. 29 December 1814, Washington Parish, Louisiana; d. 1893, Harris County, Texas.
vii.   NANCY RICHARDSON, b. 1815, Bulloch County, Georgia.
  Notes for NANCY RICHARDSON:
Nancy never married.

Probate records of Benjamin's estate indicate she was of "unsound mind". She is in 1860 census with Stephen L. Davis and Rebecca, but does not appear in 1870 census.

17. viii.   ANDREW JACKSON RICHARDSON, b. 12 October 1816, Washington Parish, Louisiana; d. 18 April 1863, Tyler County, Texas.
ix.   WILLIAM H. RICHARDSON, b. 1818, Washington Parish, Louisiana; d. 1851-1858, Tyler County, Texas.
  Notes for WILLIAM H. RICHARDSON:
William served in the Texas Revolution and received a bounty grant of 640 acres in Foard County.

1850 Jasper County Census lists William at age 33 as a shoemaker.

Correction received from Bill Richardson of Channelview, Texas 24 January 1998:

William did not serve in the Texas Revolution, nor did he receive a grant of land in Foard County. The William Richardson who received the land in Foard County was a colonist in Vehlan's colony. William did receive a third class grant in Jasper County, however. There is no record anywhere of him servicing in the Texas Revolution.

The one in the 1850 census may or may not be this William. There were three or four William Richardsons in Jasper County at this time and I've had difficulty sorting them out. Still working on it. His brother, John, in a petition filed in 1858 says he is deceased, but he apparently appears in later documents, possibly . . .really confusing.

18. x.   ROBERT W. RICHARDSON, b. 1820, Washington Parish, Louisiana; d. Abt. 1850, Evadale, Jasper County, Texas.
Children of BENJAMIN RICHARDSON and REBECCA POOL are:
xi.   KETCHAM3 RICHARDSON, b. 1826, Washington Parish, Louisiana; d. 1848, Evadale, Jasper County, Texas.
  Notes for KETCHAM RICHARDSON:
Ketcham was the first child of Benjamin's second marriage. He died about the same time as his father and brother, Robert, in some epidemic and was never married. After these illnesses and so many deaths in the family Rebecca Richardson decided that the Bluff was not a good place to live. She moved to Tyler County and bought a new home about a mile east of the present town of Hillister.

xii.   GEORGE WASHINGTON RICHARDSON, b. 1828, Washington Parish, Louisiana; d. 1898, Spurger, Tyler County, Texas; m. (1) MATILDA BRIDGES; m. (2) DELITHA HARVILL; m. (3) MILDRED WILLIAMS FLOWERS; m. (4) UNKNOWN GARDNER; m. (5) MATILDA (LETTIE) BRIDGES, 30 October 1865, Tyler County, Texas.
  Notes for GEORGE WASHINGTON RICHARDSON:
George lived at Town Bluff was a blacksmith, and had a tannery. He was also a saddler, a shoemaker and a gunsmith. During the Civil War he was released by special order of General John G. Walker from duty in Company K, 13th (Burnett's) Cavalry Regiment to return to his home and business on special assignment for the Confederate war effort. To accompish all he was expected to do he must have had a considerable establishment that employed a number of men. Every two months wagons brought shoes, saddles, harness and guns to be repaired. The train then picked up those left for repair on the previous trip. Besides the repairs, there was also a quota of new shoes, saddles, harness and so forth supposed to be ready. George W. had bad luck with his wives. The first, Lettie Bridges of Liberty County, had 3 children before her death. The second wife was Lettie's sister, Matilda, who died at the birth of her first child, Richard. The third, Delitha Harvill, had 3 children before her death; the fourth, Mildred Williams Flowers, a widow, was the mother of 2 - Benjamin and Hannah.

Notes from William Richardson, Channelview, Texas 24 January 1998:

I have found marriage records of marriages 2,3, and 4, but nothing on #1. However the unknown Gardner could be Mildred McKinsey that a G.W. Richardson married on 30 October 1872 in Tyler County. McKinsey being a married name and Gardner her maiden name???? George is buried in Beech Creek Cemetery in Tyler County.

Died between 1851 and 1858. Information on him very scanty. Mentioned in probate records in 1850. Age in 1850 census of 20 years probably wrong as he was not in the 1835 census with the rest of the family. He should have been listed as he would have been 5 years old.

  xiii.   SARAH RICHARDSON, b. 24 March 1832, Richardson's Bluff, Jasper County, Texas; d. 17 November 1906, Tyler County, Texas; m. (1) WADE WILLIFORD; m. (2) WILLIAM B. WILLIAMS, 06 October 1853, Tyler County, Texas.
  Notes for SARAH RICHARDSON:
Sarah was the first native Texan in the family.

19. xiv.   RIPLEY MONROE RICHARDSON, b. 1833, Richardson's Bluff, Jasper County, Texas; d. Bef. 1881, Hardin County, Texas.
xv.   JAMES M. RICHARDSON, b. 1835, Richardson's Bluff, Jasper County, Texas; d. 1851-1858, Jasper County, Texas.
20. xvi.   REBECCA RICHARDSON, b. 1836, Richardson's Bluff, Jasper County, Texas; d. Bef. 1881, Hardin County, Texas.
xvii.   LETTIE E. RICHARDSON, b. 15 January 1838, Richardson's Bluff, Jasper County, Texas; d. Aft. 1881, Hardin County, Texas; m. WILLIAM F. HOLMES, 19 September 1859, Tyler County, Texas.
  Notes for WILLIAM F. HOLMES:
William was an early teacher in Tyler County, Texas.
