Jessie Altana Beam (daughter of James Beam and Fannie Mae Elwell) was born September 19, 1876 in Climax, Kalamazoo Co., Michigan, and died November 9, 1959 in Elk City, Beckham Co., Ok. She married Julius A. Rice on April 7, 1900.

Includes NotesNotes for Jessie Altana Beam:
Jessie owned a singer sewing machine with a foot pedal. She seemed to sew all the time she wasn't cooking, gardening, caring for the chickens or doing house work. I was always fascinated by how she could twist the end of a thread around her forefinger with her thumb and make a knot with one hand.
Later she added a gasoline cook stove to her kitchen. It was porcelain and very fancy.
She came to Oklahoma with her husband in a covered wagon and homesteaded on the quarter section of land 4 miles east of the townsite of Rhea, Dewey Count.
The quarter of land is the quarter abutting the sw corner of the intersection.
Floyd and Leona was later deeded the property as their part of the inheritance of the Julius Rice estate.
