Susan Henderson (daughter of J. T, Henderson and S. Henderson) was born 1843 in DeQueen, Seiver co., Arkansas, and died 1911 in Palo Pinto co.Fox mtn cem. 3mi n.Gordon. She married Samuel W. Mayo on December 31, 1865 in Brockville, Ellis co. Tx, son of William Mayo and Sarah Hawkins.
Notes for Susan Henderson: Susan Henderson, because of her Chikasaw indian blood was elgible to draw some government money. Legend has it that her husband felt like it was charity and would have no part of it. At the time they were living on 160 acres of land near Gordon Texas. He promised her that if she cashed the government checks he would build a fence through the middle of the property and would move out of the house and never come back. She did cash the checks and Sam did move out, built the fence and no one ever accused him of going back to the home. The family always felt like the money from the government allowed her to have her picture made professionaly and to have a few nicer looking clothes she wore to have her photograph made. Kenneth Mayo was close to the members of the family that repeated the story.
