Thomas Jefferson "Taylor" Gattis (b. May 1847, d. February 28, 1929)

Thomas Jefferson "Taylor" Gattis (son of Thomas Joseph Gattis) was born May 1847 in Rome, Floyd co.,Ga, and died February 28, 1929 in Franklin , Logan co, Ak. He married Rebecca Jane Crossno, daughter of Isaac Crossno and Anna Lisa Kendall.

Taylor Gattis ran away from home at age 12 and came to Arkansas. He and a cousin, Thomas Cicero Gattis rode through on horses and worked their way, which took a year to make the trip. Taylor had 28 cents in money when he left home. Later they went with a group of men to Tennessee and was drafted in the Army (Confederate) of Civil War. They joined the Georgia Cavalry, B Regiment 40 and fought for 22 months (1863-1865). He returned to Arkansas after war where he married Rebecca Jane Crossno. Thomas Cicero Gattis married Charity Crossno, a siser.

Taylor purchased a farm near Paris, Arkansas in the Old Fort School District (now called Carbon City). They had 15 children, 13 of which grew to adulthood. His one full sister married Henry Gattis, a second cousin, and a brother to Thomas Cicero. Henry and Carrie settled near Sherman, Texas.

Taylor's father Thomas Joseph (also a veteran) married a second time to Frances Maxey who was only seven years older than Taylor, Born 1840 in North Carolina. The marriae was December 23, 1853. Taylor's mother's name is not known.
