Houston Smith (son of Hiram Obiff Smith and Ella Formea) was born April 2, 1906 in Picayune,Mississippi, and died November 21, 2006 in Zapata Tx.. He married Eva Lue Speer on April 5, 1953, daughter of Luke Edmond Speer and Ruth Ellen Pierson.

Zapata, Texas---Houston Smith passed away to be with Jesus, our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 21, 2006. He was 100 years, seven months, and 19 days oldl
He was born April 2, 1906 in Picayune Mississippi to Hiram Obiff and Ella Formea Smith. Houston worked as a plumber and pipe fitter. He established the Plumbers and Pipe fitters Local Union 823 in Harlingen, Texas
He Married Eve Lue Speer on April $ 1953. Houston also owned a grocery store and nursery and helped build a small subdivision in Brownsville. During his time in Brownsville, he and his wife raised three children. Later, He retired to Zapata.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and numerous brothers and sisters.
Houston is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Eva Smith of Zapata; his children, Rebecca Neu of Antonio and Houston Dwaine Smith and wife Julia of Floresville; his step-son Larry and Gene Ponder, his great grandchildren, Houston and Ashley Smith, and Andrew Smith and his great grandchildren, Houston and Ashley
A private family service was held.
Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Rose Garden Funeral Home, Daniel A. Gonzalez, Director 2102,HWY 83, Zapata, TX
