John and Ann Black came to Vermilion Co., IL. about 1830, tradition says by
horseback. Oct. 18, 1831 is a date given for their arrival in Vermilion
County. They were members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. John Black
died in 1851 and his widow married 2nd John L. Sconce on May 6, 1856. John and
Ann S. Black lived at Brooks Point, Ill. and are buried in the Sandusky

MARRIAGE: "MARRIAGE BOND WOODFORD COUNTY, KENTUCKY
Know all men by these presents that we John Black and John Black are held and firmly bound unto the Commonwealth of Kentucky in the just and full sum of Fifty pounds to the payment of which will and truly to be made we bind ourselves our Heirs jointly severally and firmly by these presents . Sealed
and dated this 9th day of October 1823. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas there is a marriage shortly intended to be solemnized between the above bound John Black and Ann Black and for so doing this shall be your sufficient warrant. Now if there should be no lawful cause to obstruct said marriage then the above obligations to be void else to remain in full force and virtue.
