"Your question about Samuel W. Black really gets into the Black family line since a Black married a Black. Samuel W. was a brother of my great grandmother Sarah Lucinda "Cinda" (Black) Henderson. (Mrs. Eli Hender son) They were two of the 14 children of John & Ann S. Black of Westville, Ill.
My great uncle, Rev. Elam Henderson of West Falmouth, Mass., visited Sam Black in 1918 during a visit to Illinois relatives and wrote the following to my grandfather, John M. Henderson:
'Thursday I ran down to Ridgefarm to Cousin Etta Smith's home to spend the night with Uncle Samuel Black who is now in his 90th year and in good health. He is getting his second eyesight and reads without glasses . His hair is but iron grey, so that he looks twenty years younger. Cousin Edwilda
White met me there and we had a delightful visit. Uncle told me about Mother's people in Kentucky, information which I highly prize. He told me of Uncle John Black, Mother's uncle, who after he was ninety cut a third set of teeth as white and beautiful as a baby's. Being of such stock there is hope for some of you yet. This same uncle's hair came in again at the same time and was brown and silky as an infants. Some of you white heads better knock out your teeth and pull out your hair and try the same 'stunt'. (May 19, 1918.) (Read with tongue in cheek, I think!)"
