RESIDENCE: After the marriage of Samuel and Nancy, they resided in Bourbon Co., KY where the four or five eldest children were born. The family moved to Vermilion Co., IL in October 1836. They spent that winter at Brook's Point near Westville, IL and in the spring of 1837 settled just east of Sidell, IL. They lived there until his death in 1870. Manso Porter refers to the farm as the Black Old Homestead. Several family marriage ceremonies were performed there.
