Tobias Mikolsen Reinertson was born August 28, 1871 in Grimstad, Norway, and died March 05, 1935 in Muskegon Hts. Mi. He married Ellen Marie Lund on October 26, 1901 in Fruitland Twp, Mi, daughter of Karl Peter Petersson and Anna Lovisa Bengtsdotter.

Tobias immigrated in 1890 from Grimstad, Norway. In the 1910 census, Tobias is listed as age 38 and was a sailor on a freighter that sailed the Great Lakes. In the 1920 census, he was listed as an assembler at a crane factory. In 1920, Ruth was also listed as a laborer at the crane factory, at the age of 17. Roy was listed as a newsboy. At the time of their marriage Tobias was 30 and Ellen was 17. Besides sailing the Great Lakes, Tobias had been to Australia and around Cape Town.
According to Tobias's Petition for Naturalization papers, Tobias emigrated to the U.S. from Christainsand, Norway on or about April 10, 1900 and arrived in the port of New York aboard the vessel,Lealedovia. His Declaration of Intention
is dated March 16, 1903 and signed in the Muskegon County Circuit Court. At the time of the Petition of Naturalization he and Ellen where married and Ruth, Edith, Roy, and Melvin had been born and where residing at 12 Hill Street, Muskegon Mi. Further states that he had resided continuously in the USA for a term of at least 5 years immediately preceding the date of the petition, since May 9, 1900 and in Michigan for at least 1 year, since May 11, 1900.
Tobias signed these papers on March 26, 1912. Witnesses for him were Frank Gates,Occupation Farmer and Napoleon Daupliass, also a Farmer. The papers also show 2 continuances. The first from Sept 17, 1912 to Dec 17, 1912, the reason being listed as a sailor away on a trip. The 2nd was from Dec. 17, 1912 to Feb. 18, 1912 reason listed was to permit petitioner to study civil government. Papers also show that Marvin Walter was born during the time between his declaration and naturalization. Order of Court Admitting Petioner signed Feb. 18, 1913. A copy of these documents are in the scrapbook.
1875 census shows 1871 as birth year but birth place is Fjaere and 1900 census show 1872 as birth date- see copies in scrapbook.
Tobias was baptized September 16, 1871 at Fjaere, a neighboring parish to Grimstad, which is in the county of Aust-Agder
