5. James Fish was born on Nov 6 1838 in Columbiana Co., Ohio.⁽¹¹⁾ He was living in 1860 in Watertown Twp., Washington Co., Ohio. Listed as a day laborer in the household of Alexander W. Beebe. He was enlisted in Company L, 1st Ohio Cavalry in Dec 1863 in Warren Twp., Washington Co., Ohio. ⁽¹¹⁾ "Was taken sick in Tennessee, in March 1864, with Small Pox, and lay in a hospital for several months. Rejoined his regiment on recovery" He re-enlisted in 1864 from Watertown Township. He was discharged on Sep 28 1865.⁽¹⁶⁾ He was a farmer in 1870 in Union Twp., Washington Co., Ohio. He was living in 1881 in Oregon. ⁽¹⁷⁾ James is not listed with his household in the 1880 census in Watertown Twp. He may of went west and then called for his family later.

He was married to Ruth Beebe (daughter of George W. Beebe and Sarah J. Webster) on Jun 25 1868 in Washington Co., Ohio. ^{(18)(19) (20)} They were married by Rev. A. B. Price, DD. James Fish was listed as living in Union Township at the time of their marriage - Ruth was from Watertown Township. Ruth Beebe was born about 1846 in Ohio. James Fish and Ruth Beebe had the following children:
